Animation Isn’t Just for Kids – Part 2

Utter the word “animation” and many are quick to jump to the conclusion that it must be “just for kids”. However, animation is everywhere today and geared towards almost any audience. In many cases, it may be the most effective, clear, or possible way to communicate certain information. If speaking to 20 to 35 yr. olds, animation may not only be expected, but also the preferred medium for communication. For this blog series, we’ll explore the many uses and advantages of animation in the business world.

Part 2: Virtually There
Engineers use software to visualize, design, and troubleshoot buildings and structures before construction begins. By taking that process a few steps further, 3D texture artists can add color and details to the building and its environment, animators can move a virtual camera through the structure, and render artists can create realistic lighting and shadows. The result is a virtual tour of a non-existent, future, or existing-remote facility viewable for everyone. So how does all this help your business?

Future Facilities
Animation allows you, your business partners, investors, and customers to virtually experience your new building project before it is complete. Imagine walking up to the front door, into the lobby, and perhaps sitting down in the conference room of a new headquarters 2 years before it exists. Imagine the clarity this would give investors. Imagine the impact this could make on your customers. Animation helps us to see, inspires ideas, and invokes conversation. A simple animated video with a tagline or weblink at the end can often drum up more viewership than a more direct marketing message.

Capturing the Dramatic
Animation lends itself well to the dramatic. It can show us the world in a way that isn’t physically or financially possible. Once your headquarters, office, retail space, landscape, etc. is built in the computer, the camera can capture that space in almost any way imaginable. No cranes, dollies, airplanes, helicopters, or expensive film equipment required. In this way, you can add the drama of a scene from a motion picture to the tour of your new or existing facility. Ultimately, your video can be made available to anyone, anywhere in the world so you can welcome them to your business and take them on a tour without them physically ever being there.

Virtually There: The Beijing Olympic Green
In the height of anticipation for the Beijing Olympics, we were hired to create a peek into the Olympic Green months before it was formally revealed to the public. We traveled to Beijing to capture photographs of the area, still very much under construction. Back in our studio, we combined those photos with blueprints and other sketches to build the park three dimensionally in the computer.
