Getting Started with Video

The thought of introducing video into your company’s marketing or training collateral may seem daunting, and you may simply not know where to start. Luckily there are experienced production companies that can help -not only with the production itself but with helping to select the RIGHT kind of video to communicate most effectively to your company’s audience.

Cost
Getting started with video also draws up the question of cost. A good producer will tell you that there is no real cookie-cutter price for doing media production IF producing on a budget. There are many elements to come together to produce a video; each with their associated cost. Selecting the critical components to create your video makes for a more targeted end result and a more precise cost estimate.

Ideas
So what kind of video is right for your company? Well as we said, a producer can help to select the right one for you. We recommend against jumping in with the goal of producing the “one great end-all perfect video”. First, this will probably end up costing more than you wanted; second it may not live up to your expectations. Start small. Record your company’s presentation at a conference, interview some of your past customers to get their testimonial, capture a direct address from your CEO, video blog about issues in your industry, welcome people to your website with a short and simple animation, or record a training webinar. Producing one video will spawn ideas for new productions and help you to communicate your ideas to a producer more effectively.

Quality
While we are snobs when it comes to quality the premise is sound. Starting out with video does NOT require or warrant low quality. Having to explain away to your customers that this is your first video isn’t professional. Low quality video is never better than no video at all. Making up for low quality often costs more money and requires you to recreate the video at a later date. The goal is to start with good quality – simple videos that will be useful a year from now, even if you apply a larger budget to future productions. Taking simple steps in planning and applying budget in a smart way can help to assure good quality results.

Getting started with video is not as hard as it may seem. There are plenty of qualified producers out there than can help sow the seeds to grow your video campaign.
